If you decided to stay in Corfu at Villa Voukithro, this article will give you all information about what to see around the villa. But also where are the closest beaches, the closest restaurants, where to buy food and more.
What to see around Villa Voukithro
Old Perithia
Old Perithia, the oldest village of Corfu, is only 4 kilometers away from Villa Voukithro. It is worth a visit or two if you stay at Villa Voukithro. It is a one hour walk if you are courageous or only an eleven minutes drive. I like to go there to have lunch or dinner in one of the many tavernas. Or as a starting point to one of the hikes to Mount Pantokrator.
The caves
Another excursion in the immediate vicinity of Villa Voukithro is the caves in the village of Loutses (Grava for the locals). They are located at an altitude of about 300 meters. You can reach them at the end of a small path that descends into nature. The entrance to the caves is quite large and gives access to a large space whose ceiling is covered with stalactites. The caves of Loutses and the caves of Anthropograva near Klimatia are the most important on the whole island.
Loutses Church
If you take the small path in front of Villa Voukithro you will arrive after a few hundred meters at the Loutses church. Nothing really special but it is typical of all small churches in Corfu. You can climb a few steps to see the bells and have a nice view of the surroundings.
Bee Happy
Within walking distance of the Villa, at Loutses on the way to Perithia, you will find Bee Happy. It’s a nice shop where you can understand how a hive works. You can also buy honey or honey-based products like soap.
Closest Beaches from Villa Voukithro
Villa Voukithro is half way to the mountain. It is not on the sea side. The closest beach is Kalamaki Beach, 5 kilometer away from the villa. It is only a 10 minutes drive but you will need a car. Just a little further and much nicer are Agios Spiridon beach and Kassiopi beaches, only 15 minutes away.
And if you are ready to spend a little bit more time to see outstanding beaches, try Porto Timoni, Paleokastritsa or Peroulades.
Tavernas around Villa Voukithro
There is one taverna at Loutses called Nitzos. It is just next to Bee Happy shop, 800 meters away from the villa. It is a nice walk and you will find at the taverna the classics of Greek food like greek salad, moussaka and Mythos beers !
10 minutes drive away from the villa you have two options. Either one of the tavernas of Old Perithia village. I personally like Ognistra at the entrance of the village and the taverna “the old perithia”. Also 1à minutes away but in Perithia village I like very much Taverna Harris.
And then a little bit further you can have dinner at Kassiopi, Avlaki or Agios Stefanos.
Where to buy food
You will find 2 small grocery shops in Perithia, 10 minutes away from Villa Voukithro. But for larger shopping it is better to go to Acharavi. There are several supermarkets and you will find everything. Don’t be surprised when it is time to pay, the food is much less expensive there than in your own country ! Be careful most of the supermarkets are closed on sunday afternoon.
